I am watching with sadness and horror as a major humanitarian crisis unfolds in Israel and Gaza nearly two weeks after the appalling terrorist attack by Hamas against Israeli civilians. The death toll is rising rapidly as the conflict escalates in heavily populated areas, including unconscionable attacks on civilians, hospitals, and emergency responders. Vital humanitarian corridors have become impassable, and those caring for the wounded are cut off from supplies. I invite health and humanitarian leaders in the United States and worldwide to join me in calling for the absolute protection of innocent civilians and health workers and the provision of lifesaving medical care to all who are in need.
