Two More and Counting: Suicide in Medical Trainees

In the aftermath of two resident suicides in New York in May of 2018, Michael F. Meyers, MD, writes of his recent experiences around discussing burnout and physician suicide, and provides two recommendations to the medical community. In order to give medical students and residents a voice, he recommends members of the medical community to come together in a town hall forum to openly talk about and address any challenges and struggles. In order to fight the stigma attached to psychiatric illness in trainees, he recommends divulging personal experiences of depression, post-traumatic stress disorders, substance use disorders, and more.
