This commentary, published in Academic Medicine, advises clinical leaders to utilize accredited continuing medical education as the professional development vehicle to drive change and achieve goals, complementing quality improvement efforts, patient safety projects, and other systems changes. With a multi-professional scope and educational expertise, a CME course can contribute to initiatives focused on both clinical and nonclinical areas, such as quality and safety, professionalism, team communication, and process improvements. Engagement in education is an investment in clinician well being, better health, better care, and lower cost.
