Prevalence of Depression, Depressive Symptoms, and Suicidal Ideation Among Medical Students A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

Published in JAMA Network, this meta-analysis aims to estimate prevalence of depression and suicidal ideation in medical students. The percent of medical students with depression or depressive symptoms was reported to be 27% and those with suicidal ideation was 11%. Both statistics are higher than that of the general population suggesting the need for more effective preventative efforts and increased access to care.
