Physician Burnout: A Potential Threat to Successful Health Care Reform

In this commentary, published in JAMA, the authors discuss physician burnout as a potential threat to successful health care reform. The authors note that some aspects of health care reform may have the unintended consequence of increasing physician burnout. Furthermore, they argue that for reform to achieve its goal of providing all community members access to high-quality medical care, efforts to identify and address the controllable factors contributing to burnout among physicians are needed.
