Effects of active on-call hours on physicians’ turnover intentions and well-being

Published in Scandinavian Journal of Work, Environment & Health, the research study examines whether active on-call hours and co-occurrence of lifestyle risk factors are associated with physicians’ turnover intentions and distress. The findings show that being on active call for more than 40 hours per week and having two or more risk factors (smoking, heavy drinking, overweight, and low physical activity) are both associated with higher distress. Working more than 40 hours per week and having two or more risk factors augments the likelihood of having turnover intentions.
