Designing and implementing a resiliency program for family medicine residents

This report, published in the International Journal of Psychiatry in Medicine, describes resiliency program for family medicine residents in a medium sized U.S. residency training program. Interactive sessions place an emphasis on self-awareness, coping skills, strengths and meaning in work, time management, self-care, and relationships in and outside of medicine. Systemic changes included providing fresh fruits, an elliptical exercise machine, and a few minutes of mindfulness meditation daily. To date results indicate acceptance and use of provisions, improved health behaviors, and enhanced stress resilience, all the while meeting the accreditation requirements.
