Career Development of Physician Scientists: A Survey of Leaders in Academic Medicine

The following article provides information on current practices and policies around mentorship and support in medical schools and teaching hospitals. A survey was conducted to explore institutional and departmental leaders’ perspectives on how aspiring career development awardees are selected and mentored through the processes of applying for their first career development award. They were also asked for their perspectives on features of mentors, mentees, and organizations that facilitate successful transitions to independence as a physician-investigator.
