A Self-Referral Preventive Intervention for Burnout Among Norwegian Nurses: One-Year Follow-Up Study
This study investigated levels and predictors of change in burnout dimensions after an intervention for help-seeking nurses. The intervention reduced nurses’ emotional exhaustion and depersonalization and increased the proportion of nurses seeking psychotherapy after the intervention. No effects on sick leave, receipt of disability benefits, use of anti depressants, number of hours worked, and proportion in conflict at work were reported. A short-term preventive intervention could contribute to the reduction of emotional exhaustion in nurses. Preventive interventions to reduce burnout for nurses should be considered, as well as programs for preventing or handling conflicts at work.
