NAM Change Maker Campaign for Health Workforce Well-Being

Background

The NAM launched the Clinician Well-Being Collaborative in 2017 to reverse trends in health worker burnout. In October 2022, the NAM released the National Plan for Health Workforce Well-Being to drive collective action to strengthen health workforce well-being and restore the health of the nation, as more nurses, physicians, and public health employees than ever are poised to leave their professions.

Becoming an NAM Change Maker

The Change Maker Campaign aims to advance the National Plan Priority Areas and spark a national movement to support health workforce well-being. The campaign will provide a dynamic mechanism to facilitate information sharing and collaboration across ongoing initiatives, document their impact, and amplify effective solutions to common challenges.

The NAM launched the Change Maker Campaign in October 2023 on the first anniversary of the release of the National Plan. We look forward to organizations representing health care and public health leaders, government, payers, industry, educators, and other groups becoming Change Makers to drive policy and systems change.

What does it mean to be a Change Maker?

Change Makers will affirm a commitment to Priority Area 6, and reflect on their organizational progress toward institutionalizing well-being as a long-term value. Change Makers will have opportunities for:

  • Public recognition by the NAM: Change Makers will receive an annual Change Maker Badge that can be displayed on websites and other materials.
  • Storytelling: The NAM will collect and amplify stories of triumphs and shared challenges on the NAM website and across NAM channels to fuel the work of Change Makers.
  • Celebrating progress: All Change Maker organizations will be invited to participate in the inaugural Health Workforce Well-Being Day of Awareness in March 2024. This annual day will be a chance for the nation to reflect on how far Change Makers and grassroots supporters have come each year and celebrate accomplishments.

To spark a national movement to support health worker well-being, we must start from a deep commitment to well-being as a long-term value. We cannot make meaningful change to our health system without this foundation of health organizations of all settings forming a network built upon this shared, embedded value.

Collaborative Member Change Makers

Building on the Foundation of the NAM Clinician Well-Being Network

The Change Maker Campaign builds on almost six years of collective work among 200 Clinician Well-Being Collaborative Members and Network Organizations. Thank you to our 2017-2023 network for tremendous progress in raising the visibility of clinician anxiety, burnout, depression, stress, and suicide; improving baseline understanding of challenges to clinician well-being; and advancing evidence-based, multidisciplinary solutions to improve patient care by caring for the caregiver. We look forward to deepening partnerships with our network through the Change Maker Campaign, in addition to bringing new actors into the movement.
