NAM President Victor J. Dzau Awarded Order of the Rising Sun

Today the Government of Japan announced that Victor J. Dzau, president of the National Academy of Medicine (NAM), was awarded the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon.

This honor was conferred on Dzau for his contributions to the promotion of academic exchange and mutual understanding between Japan and the United States. He is a member of the prestigious Japan Academy, and a member of the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science’s Program Committee of Japan World Premier International Research Center Initiative. Dzau has actively contributed to the Japan-US Global Health Dialogue, which brings together government officials, academics and industry leaders from the fields of international health in Japan and the United States.

The Order of the Rising Sun was established in 1875, the first of Japan’s official orders. The Order of the Rising Sun is awarded to individuals who have rendered distinguished service to Japan in a variety of fields.
