Intersection of DEI with Health Worker Well-Being: A Systems Approach

The NAM Action Collaborative on Clinician Well-Being hosted a hybrid convening on The Intersection of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion with Health Worker Well-Being, on Monday, March 11, 2024.

Ensuring the well-being of a health workforce that reflects a growing, aging, and more racially and ethnically diverse U.S. population is synergistic with implementing strategies for diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI). The NAM Clinician Well-Being Collaborative assembled industry leaders, policymakers, and clinician stakeholders to discuss opportunities to better coordinate and catalyze both DEI and well-being efforts at the health care organization and national levels.

The free public convening:

  • Described multi-level determinants (individual, organizational values and system) of occupational well-being among health care workforce members from diverse and underrepresented backgrounds.
  • Identified the strategies of measuring equity climate and well-being over time across demographic groups within the health care workforce, to allow data-driven decision-making and accountability around intervention development, implementation, and assessment.
  • Identified key elements of integrated frameworks to guide DEI and well-being efforts and support leaders in promoting occupational well-being for an emerging diverse health care worker ecosystem.

This event followed a special celebration of the inaugural Health Workforce Well-Being Day, where Congressional and senior leaders and the public came together to celebrate our progress in making health worker well-being a shared priority.
