Confronting Workforce Shortages and Health Worker Well-Being

The NAM’s Clinician Well-Being Collaborative held an engaging hybrid event on Confronting Workforce Shortages and Health Worker Well-Being: Harnessing Lessons from Rural Health Settings, co-hosted with the Council for Medical Specialty Societies and the University of Kansas Medical Center. This convening was in Kansas City and livestreamed for the public.

This meeting aimed to:

  1. Frame the health workforce shortage crisis and discuss its implications for health worker well-being and access to safe, high-quality care delivery.
  2. Explore a case study of workforce shortages in rural health settings and highlight strategies for overcoming workforce challenges and barriers to health worker well-being.
  3. Explore successful strategies and solutions to promote health worker well-being, enhance team-based care, and contribute to equitable health outcomes.

Clinicians and leaders from health systems, public and private entities, as well as regional stakeholders heard direct experiences and discussed how to apply innovative strategies to achieve the quadruple aim in light of the current state of the health workforce.
