Work-home interface stress: an important predictor of emotional exhaustion 15 years into a medical career

This study examines changes in work-home interface stress over 5 years, and their prediction of emotional exhaustion. A nationwide doctor cohort questionnaire, at 10 and 15 years after graduation reveals that levels of work-home interface stress declined, whereas emotional exhaustion stayed on the same level. Additional independent predictors were reduction in support from colleagues and emotional exhaustion at baseline. These findings are of importance both for the individual doctors and their work places in order to implement empirically founded and effective interventions.
