The Phenomenon of Resilience in Crisis Care Mental Health Clinicians
This research study, published in International Journal of Mental Health Nursing, explores resilience experienced by Australian crisis care clinicians working treating mental health in demanding, complex, specialized and stressful environments. Themes identified in the interviews are ‘The team is a protective veneer to the stress of the work’; sense of self; faith and hope; having insight; and looking after yourself. Exhaustive descriptions were integrated into a fundamental structure of resilience for clinicians. The study’s findings may inform mental health organizations in promoting clinician resilience, reducing risk of burnout and staff attrition, and promoting occupational mental health.
