The following article discusses the concept of a “maternal wall”, through which coworkers and bosses often perceive a trade-off between competence and warmth. Employers can acknowledge and address this phenomenon by implementing antidiscrimination policies and educaitng supervisors about what constitutes caregiver discrimination. Examining hiring, attendance, and promotion policies to make sure they are free from biased standards is also important.
