The Intersection of Physician Well-Being and Clinical Application of Diabetes Guidelines
The authors of the following study investigate the interplay of prediabetic patient care, physician mental well-being, and clinical care using the theory of planned behavior. The main results find caring for a larger proportion of patients with preDM is associated with worse physician mental well-being. State of mind and mental well being were not associated with self-reported clinical behavior, but perception of patient barriers were associated with higher likelihood of prescribing metformin for diabetus mellitus. Well-being can affect prescribing behavior and future research should evaluate ways to ameliorate psychological burden of caring for patients with diabetes and preDM.
