Teaching, Learning, and the Quest for Well-Being: Psychiatrists as Physician-Educators

With a peculiar vision, psychiatrists focus on what makes us human, what makes us suffer, and what makes us thrive; it is this vision that appears to help clinicians to help others. Academic psychologist, Carol Ryff, explains the vitality of personal growth for psychological well-being, she means: “…continued development; sees self as growing and expanding; … is changing in ways that reflect more self-knowledge and effectiveness.” In this issue of Psychiatric Annals, Norris, Khin, and their team of contributors show how mental health clinicians can teach and inadvertently learn and grow, thereby enhancing their own well-being.
