The following article proposes an initial shortlist of recommendations to promote gender equality in science and stimulate future efforts to level the field. Direct financial support strategies include implementing flexible family care spending and providing extra funding opportunities open to all newly independent young investigators. Psychological and cultural strategies include recruiting gender-balanced committees, addressing unconscious gender biases, and using education as a tool. Larger collaborative international initiatives include creating an institutional report card for gender equality and partnering to expand upon existing searchable databases of women in STEM.
