Reducing the incidence and risk of pressure sores, manual handling loading and carer costs using “in-bed‟ systems

Preventing or alleviating pressure sores, reducing physical loading tasks and saving costs are challenges for all health and social care organizations. In a 6-month monitoring trial, 110 clients who used a tissue viability mattress, were assessed for skin integrity and pressure ulcer incidence. Results indicated that clients without pressure ulcers at the start of the trial did not develop them; the incidence of pressure ulcers of all grades was reduced; and the number of carers required for moving and handling procedures, even for bariatric clients, was significantly reduced.
