Published in Southern Medical Journal, this article illustrates how the recent history and culture of medicine is manifested in the high prevalence of burnout. He artfully paints the picture of “the call” that inspires physicians to enter the field of medicine and explains the necessity of prevention methodologies. Finally, the author concludes by asking the reader to re-connect with “the call” and develop a sense of perspective.
