This article, published in Journal of Graduate Medical Education, describes the observed nature and benefits of the Sacred Vocational Program, an intervention for clinicians and trainees reflection and discussion of daily successes and challenges of the participants. The unique implementation asked residents to reflect on guise of sacred nobility, imagine and write their own eulogies, recognize their power to heal persons wholly and share stories of times they have been such healers, acknowledge their capacity to do harm through reflection. Lastly, residents brainstorm tips and share strategies for staying well and renew their commitment to medicine by developing a statement of principles as a group. The article emphasizes the importance of effective facilitation and a non-judgmental tone opening the door to vulnerability.
