No Time to Think: Making Room For Reflection on Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency
The following study, published in Journal of Graduate Medical Education, assesses the feasibility of designing and implementing a writing workshop series within an obstetrics and gynecology residency curriculum. Six 1-hour reflective writing workshops were put in place within the dedicated didactic time. A majority of the residents that participated did so in more than one workshop, with an overall average of 3.6 workshops. Residents perceived them as enjoyable, but few felt that it affected their work with patients. Statistically significant changes were not found in burnout and reactivity. The authors pose that the established model may help educators incorporate reflective practice into residency curricula.
