Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Lowers Psychological Distress in Medical Students
Type:
Peer-Reviewed Literature
The following prospective, non-randomized, cohort-controlled study examines the effectiveness of a Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) intervention among second year medical students. In comparison to a didactic seminar on complementary medicine, MBSR is shown to significantly decrease total mood disturbance (TMD). Furthermore, significant effects are also reported on Tension-Anxiety, Confusion-Bewilderment, Fatigue-Inertia, and Vigor-Activity subscales. The authors advise MBSR as an effective stress management intervention.
