Meditation Programs for Psychological Stress and Well-Being: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

Published in JAMA, this systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to determine the efficacy of meditation programs in improving stress-related outcomes in diverse adult clinical populations. The review found that mindfulness meditation programs had moderate evidence of improved anxiety, depression, and pain. The review found no evidence that meditation programs were better than any active treatment (i.e. drugs, exercise, or other behavioral therapies.) While this review is not specific to clinicians, the findings shed light on how individuals may be able to use meditation programs to improve anxiety, depression, and pain.
