Interventions to Reduce the Consequences of Stress in Physicians: A Review and Meta-Analysis

The following review is a meta-analysis study conducted to examine the effectiveness of interventions addressing stress, anxiety, and burnout in medicine. The findings show that cognitive, behavioral, and mindfulness interventions decreased symptoms of anxiety in physicians and medical students. Furthermore, interventions incorporating psycho-education, interpersonal communication, and mindfulness meditation decreased burnout in physicians. Results provide support to emerging evidence that these models may also contribute to lower levels of burnout in physicians.
