Identification of Possible Risk Factors for Alcohol Use Disorders Among General Practitioners in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany
Published in Swiss Medical Weekly, this research study identifies possible risk factors for alcohol use disorders (AUD) among general practitioners (GPs) practicing ambulatory care in the German state of Rhineland-Palatinate (RP). The frequency of AUD was 19%; nearly one in four general practitioners reported consuming alcohol on a daily basis. Analysis found that leisure time stress was positively associated to the occurrence of AUD, whereas resilience was negatively associated. The study advises that approaches to reduce AUD occurences work to relieve stress in leisure time and increase physicians’ resilience by improving coping strategies.
