The following perspective piece, published in JAMA, discusses the escalating clinical complexity in the practice of medicine, due to the dependence on technology for diagnosis, illness monitoring, and treatment. Although the EHR has many time saving and organization virtues, it lacks the social and behavioral factors fundamental to a patient’s treatment response and health outcomes.
