Electronic Nursing Documentation as a Strategy to Improve Quality of Patient Care

The following literature review of 24 studies examines the relationship between electronic nursing documentation and the quality of care provided to hospitalized patients. The authors assess nurses’ satisfaction, communication, and time as an indicator of quality as well as the functionality and usability of the system. As evidenced by this literature review, the underlying assumption that the conversion from paper to electronic nursing documentation will improve the health outcomes of patients has yet to be confirmed.
