Do Something about Physician Burnout

Epstein’s article in The Lancet points to recent evidence suggesting that burnout negatively affects physicians’ effectiveness as well as patient safety, physicians, health-care organisations, and the public. When burnout was initially seen only as a crisis of well-being, it was dismissed as whining of a privileged class. Recent evidence, however, has rapidly garnered more attention as the public is justifiably worried about quality of patient care.
