Diet, exercise and mental-wellbeing of healthcare professionals (doctors, dentists and nurses) in Pakistan

This article, published in PeerJ, explores the health behaviors of health care professionals, who largely differ differ from the general population with regards to their work, stress, burnout etc. The cross-sectional survey study indicated that, out of 1,190 participants, only one healthcare professional was found to eat according to USDA Dietary Guidelines; others ate higher than recommended amounts of protein and lower than recommended amounts of fruits, dairy and vegetable groups. A majority did not perform any exercise (76%), worked more than 48 hours per week (72%). and slept less than 7 hours per day (50%). Their mental well-being, diet and exercise habits are not up to the mark and should be improved to foster the whole healthcare system for individual and community benefits.
