Computerization and Physician Burnout

The following article discusses the difficulties faced by “older doctors” given the increasing computerization of practices and the EHR. Listed as one of the top 5 causes of physician burnout, this issue decreases the efficiency in finding relevant patient information and depersonalizes medical care. As a result, physicians spend 50% of their time completing administrative tasks and the EHR, but only 25% of their time talking with patients. Among other recommendations, the author advocates for medical reconciliation and teamwork between nurses and doctors, as well as well-developed medical voice recognition technology to be used with most EHRs.
