Belonging: A Simple, Brief Intervention Decreases Burnout
Type:
Peer-Reviewed Literature
This randomized, controlled trial study in Surgical Education assesses whether a brief targeted intervention designed to improve residents’ sense of belonging might decrease attrition. Residents who felt more like they belonged were more likely to think they would complete residency and less likely to see themselves as a different type of physician. Furthermore, the intervention significantly lowered rates of burnout. The authors will continue to assess long-term impact of the intervention on attrition.
