An Organizational Framework to Reduce Professional Burnout and Bring Back Joy in Practice
Swensen’s commentary, published in the Joint Commission on Quality and Patient Safety, focuses on the systemic drivers of burnout at the organizational, departmental, leadership, and individual levels foregoing those root causes in our societal expectations. The article lays out an organizational framework to revitalize Joy in Practice, an aspirational state in which professionals are compassionately engaged in care of patients and their organization’s mission. Six evidence based actions to achieve three necessary primary outcomes are listed and detailed.
