Activity Monitor Intervention to Promote Physical Activity of Physicians-in-Training: Randomized Controlled Trial
Type:
Peer-Reviewed Literature
The following publication in PLoS One evaluates a hospital-based physical activity intervention with an aim to resident health. Of two intervention phases, phase 2 involving team competition of steps recorded on worn monitors showed increased activity (steps/day). Overall, mean systolic blood pressure decreased and HDL cholesterol increased compared to the initial baseline. The findings and high participation rates suggest more intensive hospital-based wellness programs in order to promote healthier lifestyles among physicians.
