A Systematic Review of Interventions to Foster Physician Resilience

The following review synthesizes and evaluates literature describing interventions to improve resilience among physicians in order to provide an outline of types and efficacies. Methodological quality, as assessed by the Downs and Black checklist, was low to moderate in the 22 studies reviewed. Interventional strategies most often employed psycho-social skills training and mindfulness training and effect is found to be heterogeneous. The study advises conducting methodologically rigorous research to establish best practices and emphasizing the consideration of healthcare settings in interventions.
