A Roadmap to Decreasing Clinician Burnout

In this article, published in Hospitals and Health Networks, Ronald A. Paulus and David R. Strand, present a road map for decreasing clinician burnout based on their experience as leaders of large, successful health systems. They argue that a successful burnout reduction strategy must include three initiatives and explain how to achieve them: (1) removing hassles and scaling joys in the practice environment to ensure compassionate, safe and effective care, (2) increasing team communication with an emphasis on individual strengths, aligned values and shared goals, and (3) enhancing individual resiliency and well-being by equipping clinicians to manage the intrinsic stress of their busy and hectic work using evidence-based skills.
