A Randomized, Controlled Study of an Online Intervention to Promote Job Satisfaction and Well-Being Among Physicians

The following study assesses the effectiveness of a 10-week, individualized, online intervention for burnout, poor quality of life (QOL), depression, and psychological distress among physicians. The intervention required participants to complete one task from a menu of self-directed micro-tasks every week. While the results found that the intervention improved overall QOL and fatigue, the improvement was not statistically different from the improvements in the control group. However, the participants reported that the intervention was worthwhile. The take away is the critical importance of an appropriate control group in interventional studies.
