A Longitudinal Study of Well-Being, Confidence and Competence in Junior Doctors and the Impact of Emergency Medicine Placements

Published in Emergency Medicine Journal, this year-long, longitudinal research study studying emergency medicine junior doctors well-being finds significant increases in overall job satisfaction, confidence, and self-reported competence. After placement in emergency department, junior doctors reporter higher confidence and competence, although work in emergency department increased levels of motivation and anxiety and decreased levels of extrinsic job satisfaction. Overall, the findings report positive and negative effects of emergency medicine placement and work.
