Stress, Workload, Sexual Well-Being and Quality of Life Among Physician Residents in Training
Published in International Journal of Clinical Practice, the following study assesses the impact of stress and workload on sexual health and quality of life (QOL) among medical residents. In women, the study finds stress negatively influences sexual health domains: desire, arousal and satisfaction; in men, stress affects satisfaction. More specifically, long hours of work is shown to impact sexual health less profoundly than did stress. Among both male and female residents, low QOL is found to be associated with sexual dysfunction and dissatisfaction. In order to improve resident QOL and sexual health, the research advises prioritizing effective comprehensive stress-management efforts evidence over solely limiting work hours.
