Robert Brent receives 2015 Gustav O. Lienhard Award

Robert BrentThe National Academy of Medicine today awarded the Gustav O. Lienhard Award to Robert Brent for his foundational research into environmental risk factors for birth defects and cancer, and for his career-long dedication to free, compassionate counseling for expectant mothers. Brent, an NAM member, is Louis and Bess Stein Professor of Pediatrics, Sidney Kimmel College of Medicine, Thomas Jefferson University; and Head of the Developmental Biology Laboratory at Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children.

“Robert Brent has made outstanding contributions to personal health care services in this nation, both through his ground-breaking research on the level of risk posed by radiation and through his capacity to communicate those risks compassionately to patients,” said Victor Dzau, president of the National Academy of Medicine.

The award, which recognizes Brent’s achievements with a medal and $40,000, was presented to him at the NAM’s 45th Annual Meeting in Washington, DC.
