Through the Climate Communities Network (CCN), the NAM brings together community leaders (Members) to work collaboratively to identify and develop solutions to structural contributors to climate-related health outcomes in their own communities. As part of this goal, the NAM engaged Members in a Photovoice project to highlight their community’s priorities related to climate change and health – including the strengths they bring to the table in addressing the climate crisis, and their vision for the future. This project visually depicts insights shared directly from Members, who are located in diverse communities around the United States.

Using a creative lens, this project aims to better understand what community leaders across the country see as the most important climate and health challenges and opportunities facing their communities. We hope viewers not only learn from the experiences of CCN Members but also identify with the priorities that arose from within this group and feel inspired to continue these conversations and create change in their own communities.

Map Instructions

Click each of the CCN Members’ photos on the map below to learn more about their community and experiences of climate change and health. Additionally, Members’ shared priorities can be viewed by using the “Filtered By” dropdown. Note that the priorities represented below are not all inclusive but identified by Members as some of their top areas of focus.

Thank you for engaging with the above community leaders’ experiences! As you can see, there are many lessons to learn from how Members engage with and empower youth to lead climate change activities in their community, prioritize human connection to the earth, and build communities that are resilient, among other community-identified priorities.

This project is one way in which the NAM aims to amplify CCN Members’ experience, strengths, needs, and achievements, and we look forward to continuing to engage and elevate communities’ efforts and expertise.
