Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC)

The Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) focused its efforts in four areas:

Decarbonization within academic medicine. Methods and processes toward decarbonizing the institutions and organizations of academic medicine, including engagement of academic health system and medical school leadership as well as a robust grassroots community.

Climate change and medical education. Ways in which medical schools and related health professions integrate topics of climate and health into the curriculum across the continuum.

Climate change and environmental justice. Plans and progress of academic medical centers and medical schools to partner with local communities to advance environmental justice and equity and address disparate impacts on groups placed at increased risk by climate change. This includes the AAMC Center for Health Justice’s work on environmental justice via its Community Voices for Action storytelling campaign, environmental health fellow, public policy engagement, and EJ polling brief.

Internal AAMC efforts. Efforts and actions for AAMC to reduce organizational emissions by 50% by 2030 and achieve net-zero emissions by 2050.
