The NAM Nominations (November 1 – February 1)
Who May Nominate?
- All NAM members, except those serving on the Membership Committee or the Council.
- Members may sponsor or co-sponsor an unlimited number of nominees.
- Sponsors may nominate candidates in sections other than their own.
Who Is Eligible for Election?
- Essential characteristics of candidates: Outstanding achievement and willingness to participate actively in the NAM;
- Important characteristics of candidates: Contribute to membership diversity with respect to demographics (age, gender, geography, race/ethnicity) and professional expertise (emerging and integrated disciplines)
- Regular Membership: US Citizens and Permanent Residents (visa holders)
- International Members: Citizens of other nations
- Candidates nominated but not elected in the past are NOT automatically considered in subsequent elections. However, they may be re-nominated an unlimited number of times.
How Are Nominations Submitted?
Members submit nominations using the Member Online Nomination System (ONS).
How Can I Enhance My Candidate’s Chances Of Election?
- Prepare the nomination with care.
- Ensure the “Proposers’ Statement” makes a strong case for the candidate’s unique achievements and potential to help advance NAM’s work.
- Select the section and subsection representing the best fit for the candidate.
- Designate any special qualities (e.g., bridging sections; fits emphasis area criteria).
- Do NOT campaign for the candidate. This is forbidden by NAM policy; violations of this rule may have an adverse effect.
- REMEMBER: Nominations are privileged and confidential.
