Dear Members,
I am proud to share with you the National Academy of Medicine’s 2018-2023 Strategic Plan (click to view PDF). This document is the culmination of a widely consultative process in which hundreds of you generously shared your insights and expertise to help shape the future of the Academy.
In this era of rapid social, technological, and environmental change, the strategic plan identifies three key goals that will guide our work and set a course for measurable progress toward our vision of a healthier future for everyone: 1) identify and address the most critical issues and lead and inspire action; 2) diversify and activate the NAM membership and engage emerging leaders; and 3) build leadership capacity across diverse disciplines.
We will be discussing this plan in depth on October 15 at our second annual business meeting during the NAM’s 47th Annual Meeting. I look forward to an energetic discussion with many of you then. For those of you who cannot attend the meeting, I encourage you to send me your thoughts by email. After the Annual Meeting, we will begin the important work of implementing the plan and measuring and reporting on our progress.
Very special thanks go to the members of our strategic planning committee, whose guidance has been invaluable: Huda Akil, Robert Brook, Sheila Burke, Jack Ebeler, Eva Feldman, Elena Fuentes-Afflick, Rebekah Gee, Peggy Hamburg, Jane Henney, Eve Higginbotham, Steve Hyman, Raynard Kington, Carlos Jaen, Michael McGinnis, Cato Laurencin, Vivian Lee, Terry Magnuson, Afaf Meleis, Steve Shortell, Deepak Srivastava, and Tachi Yamada.
I hope you share my pride and excitement about the bright future of our Academy and the tremendous service we continue to provide as an independent advisor to the nation and the world.
Warm regards,
Victor
