About the Case Studies

The clinician well-being case studies from The National Academy of Medicine Action Collaborative on Clinician Well-Being and Resilience provide an overview of initiatives that support clinician well-being and reduce clinician burnout at organizations across the country.

The NAM seeks to identify a set of case studies that offer diversity in clinical and educational setting, profession, and intervention. The development of each case study was informed by expert interviews with professionals from each organization, as noted in each case study. The NAM conducted preliminary interviews, in-person site visits, extensive follow-up interviews, and document review for each case study. Additional case studies are forthcoming.

We hope the case studies inform and inspire organizations facing similar challenges and seeking similar outcomes. Although there is no one-size-fits-all solution for clinician well-being, techniques and resources described in the case studies may provide a useful starting point for other groups.

Let’s build a better system to help clinicians thrive.

The first two case studies feature The Ohio State University and Virginia Mason Kirkland Medical Center.
