UPMC is committed to sustainability from operations to the operating room. UPMC signed the 2022 White House Health Care Sector Climate Pledge, and aims to reduce organizational emissions by 50% by 2030 and achieve net-zero by 2050. UPMC is also committed to 1) reducing emissions from purchased power, 2) improving the efficiency of its buildings, 3) making sustainable purchasing decisions, 4) expanding health system resiliency, 5) and involving employees and communities in environmental initiatives. UPMC hospitals are part of Practice Green Health. UPMC is also developing its own system wide reporting which will be made public.
