The NAM Election (August-October)
Who is Eligible to Vote on the Final Ballot?
- All regular members (not emeritus or international) may vote on the final ballot to elect new NAM members.
When and How is the Election Conducted?
- Voting occurs from mid-August to mid-September; exact dates may vary;
- The majority of members cast their ballots via a secure election website; members may opt for a machine-readable paper ballot;
- Election winners are notified by letter from the NAM President and asked to confirm acceptance of membership by early October;
- Membership is effective immediately – officially as of October 1;
- Election results remain confidential until the official announcement and press release during the NAM annual meeting in October.
What About Candidates Who Are NOT Elected?
- Candidates who are not elected do not receive any acknowledgment of their candidacy or notification of election results;
- NAM does NOT automatically reconsider a candidate in the subsequent year; the original nominators, or any other NAM members, may nominate the candidate again in the subsequent year(s);
- Eighty (80) new members are elected annually out of a much larger candidate pool; many truly excellent candidates are elected only after repeated nominations or are not elected at all.
