President Joseph Biden announced that National Academy of Medicine (NAM) member Helene D. Gayle, MD, MPH, has been appointed as an inaugural member of the President’s Advisory Council on African Diaspora Engagement in the United States. Gayle, a pediatrician and public health physician, is president of Spelman College and is a full professor in the Department of Environmental and Health Sciences. She was elected to the NAM in 1998 and has served on numerous committees, including as co-chair of the Committee on Equitable Allocation of Vaccine for the Novel Coronavirus.
