Short-Form Mindfulness Training Protects Against Working Memory Degradation over High-Demand Intervals

Periods of intensive demands are shown to compromise working memory (WM) and increase susceptibility to distraction. Published in the Journal of Cognitive Enhancement, the study investigated if didactic content-based or training-focused mindfulness programs mitigate these deleterious effects in military cohorts. Results from WM tasks before and after mindfulness based training exercises suggested that MT may protect against WM degradation. Furthermore, training-focused MT programs offered the greatest benefits for maintaining performance in high-load conditions.
